HairTok is full of hacks that promise longer, shinier, frizz-free hair overnight. Some are great. Others can quietly damage your strands. We fact-checked five of the most viral trends.

1. Rice water rinses: works, with limits
Fermented rice water contains starch and a little inositol that can coat the strand and add temporary shine. But leaving it on for hours or using it every day can cause protein overload, especially on low-porosity hair, and leave it stiff and brittle. Verdict: once a week at most, rinsed out well.
2. Hair slugging: works for dry ends
Coating hair in oil overnight, often inside a silk wrap, can soften very dry, high-porosity ends. On fine or oily hair it usually leads to limp roots and extra washing. Verdict: apply to the ends only, and use less than you think.
3. Sleeping with wet hair: myth that it's harmless
Wet hair is at its weakest. Hours of rubbing on a pillowcase cause breakage, frizz and tangles, and a damp scalp can encourage irritation. Verdict: skip it. Dry at least 80% first, then sleep on silk or satin.
4. Cold-water final rinse: small but real
A cool rinse won't "seal" your cuticle permanently, but it does reduce frizz from heat and feels great. Verdict: keep it, just don't expect miracles.
5. "Just brush 100 strokes a day": myth
Over-brushing creates friction and split ends. Detangle gently from ends to roots with a vented brush like the Jumy Bee Vented Detangling Brush, and stop there.
What actually beats frizz

Most viral hacks only work on the surface. For smoothness that lasts, you need to treat the hair fiber. A weekly mask like the Hydrating Keratin Hair Mask restores moisture, and the One Step Keratin Smoothing Mask gives salon-style smoothing at home. Pair them with the Anti-Frizz Shampoo & Conditioner Set and you'll get results no 15-second video can promise.
